Weight Loss and The Importance of Drinking Water

Losing weight and weight issues are common among all ages and most of us don't realize the importance of drinking water and the effect it has on our weight.  Drinking the right amount of water on a daily basis will have a positive effect if you are trying to lose weight.

Water pushes water.  The more water you drink the more water retention held in the body will be released and therefore the scale will go down and you will lose weight.

On average we should drink at least 8 full glasses of water a day.  That is 64 ounces for the day.  I find that I drink more water if it is in a large mug with a straw.  I keep two 32 ounce mugs of water out and in rooms that I frequent during the day and every time I am in that room I take a sip or two.  Before I know it all 32 ounces is gone and then the next 32 ounces is gone.  This works well for me.

If you have at least 50 pounds of extra weight that you would like to lose then you should add an additional 30 ounces a day which adds up to drinking 94 ounces of water a day.  Remember that water pushes water out of the body and it will help if you have been retaining water and therefore having water weight gain.

Sodium and high sodium foods makes the body retain water. If you eat a lot of high sodium foods you can bet you have several pounds you could lose in a short period of time just by cutting way back on your sodium on a daily basis.  If you don't release the sodium by drinking lots of water during the day then the weight gain just from having too much sodium in your body will have an accumulative affect.  In other words lets say you eat high sodium foods on Monday, and then again on Tuesday and again on Wednesday then you can easily gain 10 or more pounds in just those 3 days due to high sodium levels in the body. The weight accumulates daily. The sodium is making the body hold on to the water and therefore you will have water retention and therefore weight gain.  You must release all of the sodium build up in the body before you can lose that accumulated weight.

A quick way to lose weight is by cutting back on the sodium you consume in a day.  To lose weight I find that if my sodium  does not exceed 1000 mg a day then the weight comes off quicker.  A quick weight loss is a boost to the moral and allows me to go forward to losing more weight and staying in control.  Watching my sodium consumption and drinking at least 64 ounces of water a day is my one of my secrets to losing weight quickly.

The first thing in the morning before I have breakfast I drink at least 12 ounces of cool water.  I consider it a shower for my insides and it gives me energy and helps clean out the system before more food is added.  This works for me and I know if you start watching your sodium and keep it below 1000 mg a day and also drink at least 64 ounces of water a day then you will see the scale go down and you will feel more energetic.
