Celebrity marriage Trends in todays contemporary society

By Richard Barker

In any specified year certain trends appear among the rich and famous especially when it comes down to weddings. So what's been 'hot ' in 2012?

One surprising trend is a movement towards what could be called a country touch. When Natalie Portman married Benjamin Millepied they included a vegan banquet and wildflower seeds as favours. Accompanying that were wildflower decorations. Similarly Drew Barrymore kept it straightforward by hosting her marriage in a garden bursting with roses and other pink flowers.

We've also seen various celebs going for the casual look at their wedding. Chris O'Dowd (Bridesmaids) and Dawn Porter, for instance, wore tracksuits for their reception. Definitely cosy (perhaps they're preparing to run from photographers). Jake Own and Lacey Buchanan went for shoes-off and khakis for their beach front wedding. Here's hoping no sand got in the cake!

A 3rd trend in celebrity marriages can be described with one word: color, and heaps of it. By a long way pink has been the new white this year. Reese Witherspoon, Anne Hathaway and Gwen Stefani are three important faces in the new colour trend. Having designers like Vera Wang bringing pink into her line certainly doesn't hurt its popularity. Also having magazines like Brides making the 'Something Pink ' initiative for breast cancer research, and you've got the perfect recipe for seeing pink for a few more seasons. Mind you it's not just romantic pink making an appearance. We are seeing a lot more and more wedding ensembles in purple and red. Amber Tamblyn of General Hospital celebrity wore a sunny yellow dress for her nuptials.

The fourth wedding trend among celebrities isn't truly anything new it just has not disappeared: the giant engagement band. While intended to make a statement, a few of these rings look like mountains on small hands. Kim Kardashian received a diamond that weighed in at over 20 carats. Overcompensation didn't seem to help that wedding, so maybe less is really better.

Eventually it might appear that celebrity marriages are going to the dogs literally. Adam Sandler brought his bulldogs who walked up the aisle along with the remainder of the marriage party. In a similar way Gavin Rossdale (Gwen Stafani's man) brought his sheepdog carrying the wedding band in a tote bag. Warning: this isn't an option that all venues support.

Mind you all these style statements don't mean that the modern bride can't go back to traditional white and sensible jewelry. The idea of an easier reception actually holds appeal from a budget viewpoint. Put simply, take these ideas with a touch of suspicion. It is, in fact , your marriage and you can host it without the Hollywood bling and glam.
