Visiting a new place is an exciting experience but can be quite nerve-wracking, even for seasoned travelers. Before you hit the road or take to the skies, take a look at our tips to make traveling more fun and less stressful.

Find out about local customs and laws before you reach your destination. If you don't, you could possibly get yourself into trouble if you do something that could be illegal. Even though you may not think you are breaking the law, you could be. Show your respect for the laws and the people through your behavior.

Write your contact information including name, telephone number and home address on a label visible inside your luggage when traveling. If the outside luggage tag is lost along with your luggage, the inside tag could get the bag back to you. This can decrease the risk of your luggage becoming lost forever if it happens to get misplaced or stolen while not in your possession.

It's important to tip the housekeeper and bell station well. You don't have to overdo it, though, just a simple dollar per bag and no more than five dollars a day for the housekeeper is adequate enough. You will have a better relationship with them when you are staying at the hotel.

When flying on a plane, you should plan ahead because an airline won't always be able to meet your basic needs, even when the flight lasts for many hours. Bring anything you need to keep yourself entertained and comfortable. It is also a good idea to pack a few snacks in your carry-on, in case your flight is delayed or they don't serve food you like.

If traveling with children, keep a recent, color picture of them with you at all times, just case they become lost. Losing your child is a scary situation. With that said, it is best to be prepared for worst case scenarios. If you have a picture of your kids with you, it can help out if they get separated from you in a crowd and you need assistance finding them.

Get yourself a National Parks Pass if you think you will be visiting often. The pass is $50, and it can be used at any of the parks for a year.

Make a list of what you need to pack. You can start your list anytime before you travel. By having a detailed list of what you need, you will take the stress out of packing. Even if you put off packing until the last minute, you can look at your list to avoid taking too much, or worse, forgetting something vital.

If you are traveling to a different time zone, keep yourself awake until around 8pm or later in the new time zone in order to help you adjust. Even if you are tired, going to bed too early can prolong jet lag by keeping your body in your home time zone. So adjust as fast as you can to the new time zone, so you'll get over being jet lagged faster.

You don't have to forget about your vacation just because money is tight. If you follow the advice listed here, you will soon figure out a way to make your travel plans budget-friendly.
